I don’t get to devon half as much as I want to. Lady D lives here in a idilic little town on the coast. Her parents and children are part of my family and life journey that reminds me why living in the Joy of everyday matters.
Lady D parents are getting older and struggle with bad health and reminds me so much of my own long gone parents, it makes me remember the best bits about growing up. However what strike me even more is that our kids are grown and we are now the grand parents or at least the grandparents in waiting.
Although staying with Lady D is lovely it’s not a birthday surprise for her. So booked us two and her two fabulous daughters (one being my God daughter) into a little cottage near Dulverton for two nights. Taking as the 5th member of this famous 5, Frank (Emma’s newest springer spaniel) who I didn’t learn till we arrived is not used to pubs/restaurants or lots of people!
When we set off in Lady D car, Lady L took the driving seat, while my Gorgeous God daughter navigated. Leaving The back seat to house Lady D, myself and a ton of food as Frank was settled in the boot. It’s not easy driving in the heat with a ready made pizza cutting into your neck. It could have led to a messy decapitation if the pizza edge had been crispy and we had hit anything.
The cottage had all the amenities we needed as was the countryside we passed through. It was beautiful and luckily not too hot. I say luckily as none of us can stand high temperatures. Oddly my companions live in such a hot place but still can’t cope with it.
Having lunch at a pub before getting to the cottage, our first night was a nibbles and pizza night. Which give Frank and I time to get acquainted or should I say for him to get me to understand he was a full member of the group.
